The Liddel Haven is a stunning luxury cottage situated in a little hamlet called Saughtree next to the river Liddel in the Scottish Borders. Although in Scotland this beautiful stone built shepherd’s cottage is only a stone’s throw away from Kielder Water and all the outdoor activities Kielder offers and is suitable for up to 4 people.

Inside the cottage

The cottage benefits from oil central heating and also boasts two log burners which add to the comfort and ambiance of this cottage. On the ground floor, The Liddel Haven comprises a spacious living room and dining room, a bathroom with shower over the bath, a well equipped kitchen and pantry including fridge freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher. The property also benefits from Freesat TV in both the living room and the dining room and a Roku streaming located in the living room.

Upstairs will take guests to a luxurious twin room where the beds can also be converted to a Super King and the double room of the same standard, where a King size bed awaits. All mattresses are of a superior quality and both rooms also come complete with tea and coffee making facilities. No trip to Bonny Scotland would be complete without having “a wee dram” so guests are welcome to help themselves to a complimentary drink from a decanter of whiskey.

The local area

The Liddel Haven shares the same Dark Skies with Kielder and benefits from even less light pollution! Kielder observatory is only a 10 minute drive away where the dark skies experience can be enjoyed in awe-inspiring style. In the vicinity of the observatory is Kielder village, home to Kielder Castle with its tea room and also a country pub and restaurant which offers a variety of meals and beverages.

5 minutes further brings you to Kielder Waterside Park where a selection of watersports and other outdoor activities can be enjoyed. Facilities include a gym, swimming pool, gift shop and The Boat Inn. Heading in the opposite direction from the cottage, the village of Newcastleton is a 10 minute drive where local amenities can be found. This charming village offers 2 supermarkets, 2 restaurants / coffee shops and 3 pubs, a post office and even a bank. Taking the road to Hawick will take you to this bustling Borders market town approximately 25 minutes drive away. 

Hawick boasts a number of supermarkets, shops, takeaways, banks and even its own distillery. Further afield, the Solway Firth and its seaside towns are approximately an hour away in one direction and the market town of Kelso with its cobbled streets and selection of shops and restaurants is about the same distance in the other direction.  For those who want to stay nearer to home, the immediate area offers, good walking, cycling and fishing. Tesco, Morrisons and other large supermarkets all deliver to the area.

All in all, the Scottish Borders has so much to offer for a memorable holiday in a truly beautiful and historic location. The Liddel Haven is the ideal base to explore and sample the delights that are right on its doorstep.
